Doyin Okupe has denied false reports that a viral picture of a young man stepping on Nigeria’s flag and dressed in the flag of Biafra is Peter Obi’s son.

Social media users had circulated the fake news online, saying the man in the picture is Obi’s son, Oseloka.

Reacting to the rumors, Doyin Okupe, the Vice Presidential aspirant for the Labour Party denied the reports.

His words:

“These images, claimed by some persons to be Mr. Peter Obi’s son have been circulating online for a while now.

Let it be known to the public that the photoshopped young man standing on Nigeria’s flag is not Oseloka Obi, Mr. Peter Obi’s son.

It’s really depressing that Nigerians can take political propaganda and cheap blackmail to a very unacceptable level.

Neither Mr Peter Obi’s son, nor anyone related to Mr Peter Obi would descend low to the level of insulting the integrity and dignity of the Nigerian flag.

Obi is focused on making the country better for all. It is unfair that instead of appreciating his sincere efforts, some persons are fabricating lies to pull him down.

Why don’t Nigerian politicians stick to issue-based politics, without hatred or jealousy?

Thankfully, the youths are not swayed from their Obidient resolve by these cheap lies.

We must rescue the nation from further collapse and Peter Obi is the man for the job”

Lady Shares Interesting Story How She Got Married To A Neighbor’s Younger Brother (Photos)

Patience recounted how her neighbor moved into her family compound when she was four or five years old and was always saying she is her younger brother’s wife.

A Nigerian lady has revealed how she married her neigbhour’s younger brother.

Patience Patrick took to a closed Facebook group to narrate her story.

In a post shared on a closed Facebook group, Patience recounted how her neighbor moved into her family compound when she was four or five years old and was always saying she is her younger brother’s wife.

Patience stated that the neighbor also asked her parents to allow her to visit Gombe state where she met other family members.

She further stated that the lady made them wear a little brides gown and a suit and took photos of them together.

Patience shared the story of how in a full circle, she and her husband began to love eachother when they became of age, and how they have finally gotten married.

”My husband’s elder sister came to stay in our family compound as a tenant wen I was about 4 or 5 years. She loves children and was very fond of me and my younger brother then, so she would always tell my mum dat she has found a wife for her younger brother (me oh) and they will just laugh about it. So dat year December she pleaded with my mum to allow me follow her home to see her parents for Christmas, because they were already friends with mumcy it wasn’t hard for my parents to agree oh and we traveled to Gombe together with her.

She told her parents and siblings that she brought wife for Joseph, and they will always joke and tease him with him, while huncle was feeling shy and not liking it, It was sweeting me my thing( I was young and naive abi??).

One Sunday morning when we came back from church my husband’s elder sister wore this gown for me oh ( can’t remember how she got the gown though, I think it was the one her little bride used cos she was recently married), she made him wear his one in town suit too, she called photographer oh and we took pictures. She kept saying she had joined us oh remain God’s own.

Holiday was over and we came back to Jos, she brought the pictures and gave my mum one copy of it.

Fast-forward to many years later when I was in ss1 and huncle (my husband) had just graduated from sec school, he came to his elder sister’s house in Jos though she was not in our compound again but she wasn’t staying very far, so I used to still visit her sometimes with my parents and other times I go alone to help her children out cos of the nature of her job( am older than them ofcourse). So as usual na one time I went to the house and I met huncle there. And then we got talking, he asked me out ahhhh brother calm down I still dey secondary oh till I graduate. He agreed and waited for me till I graduated from sec school, we started dating.

I got admission to university and he also went for force training. He did something that hurt me and I broke up with him. He pleaded and I refused cos there was also one guy in head too dat time, after trying to no avail he just told me ” he certain that I am his wife so no matter where I go or who I date I will still come back” and I was like abeg gatat. I think he got and angry and even blocked me on his social media handles, ahhhh wetin concern me.

Later on once in a while we got talking again just as friends though even though I knew he still liked me, i even told him how my one of my boyfriend broke my heart, guess wat he said??? ” That’s how they will keep breaking ur heart till you decide to come back to me” 

That was how huncle started posting one girl’s picture on his wastapp status with love emojies ahhhhh na so jealousy start oh ( no b like say we dey date oh).

One day I asked him y ye was posting her picture oh, he said he was getting married to her November 2020!! Ewooooo my blood is not flowing again. Dat was wen i realised I was really in love with this guy ahhhhhhhhe later told me he was just joking oh, and we came back together, the next thing was I want to come and see your parents and that was how God’s work was completed in our lives”

Reno insisted there was no crisis in the PDP and Governor Wike has no plan to dump the main opposition party.

Reno Omokri has stated that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state is too big to occupy the vice president position.

The controversial figure made the claim on Monday while appearing on Arise Tv programme.

According to him, Wike is too big to be running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Omokri added further that Governor Wike should be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when Alhaji Atiku Abubakar finishes his tenure.

Omokri, who featured on Arise Television’s morning show on Monday, insisted there was no crisis in the PDP and Governor Wike has no plan to dump the main opposition party.

“Governor Wike has told us in private and in also public that he’s never going to leave the party,” Omokri told Dr. Reuben Abati and his crew.

“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has called Governor Nyesom Wike our Jagaban and it’s true because the man has almost a larger-than-life image

14 Babies Die At UPTH’s Incubator, Doctors Suspend Surgery Due To Power Outages

No less than 14 babies have died at the incubator of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH due to power outage.

This is as some patients at the hospital said some surgery procedures have also been suspended due to irregular power supply.

A medical officer at the hospital who spoke to Standardobservers on the conditions of anonymity said among the dead babies were the twin babies of a woman who had been looking for the fruit of the womb for seven years.

She said the woman gave birth last month but due to the premature nature of the delivery, they were put in an incubator.

“I’m saddened. We lost those twins yesterday (Wednesday) because of power failure at the hospital. More than 14 babies have died at the incubator in the past weeks due to power failure”, she said.

Other patients told our correspondent that they were being referred to private hospitals by doctors due to the poor power situation.

They added that their relatives use their phone light to aid doctors and nurses who are taking care of the person he rushed to the Accident and Emergency Ward.

When contacted for comments, Prof. C. N. Mato, the hospital’s provost declined to comment on the matter.

Nigerian Army Shooting, Summarily Executing, R$ping People In Nko Community – Nigerian Bar Association

NBA chairman in Cross River, Attah Ochinke, and secretary, Eno Edet, called on the GOC of 82 Division, Enugu to caution the soldiers against reprisal against the villagers.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has raised alarm about the activities of Nigerian soldiers in Nko and Onyedama communities of Cross River State.

NBA alleged that soldiers are committing serious crimes in the community.

The soldiers were deployed to the communities to quell a communal clash. Recall also that Governor Ben Ayade recently dethroned two traditional rulers and demanded the communities to produce six soldiers feared killed during the communal clash.

In a statement addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Army authorities, the NBA chairman in Cross River, Attah Ochinke, and secretary, Eno Edet, called on the GOC of 82 Division, Enugu to caution the soldiers against reprisal against the villagers.

They also stated that soldiers “allegedly engaged in indiscriminate shooting, summary execution and rape of hapless citizens in Nko community under the guise of fishing out the perpetrators responsible for the shooting of the military personnel.”

The statement read; 

“The attention of the Nigerian Bar Association, Calabar Branch, has been drawn to the directive issued to the Nigerian Army by the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade, in respect of the army’s operations currently being conducted in Nko and Oyadama communities.

“In a press statement issued by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, the governor ordered the sustenance of army operation in Nko community until those behind the shooting of six military personnel are produced or fished out.

“While we join the governor in condemning the embarrassing and seemingly intractable communal clashes between these neighbouring communities, we view the directive of the governor to the army to sustain its operations in Nko community as appalling and ill-advised.

“It is common knowledge that the army is currently engaged in a reprisal action against the Nko community over the alleged shooting of six military personnel in the course of the crisis.

“The army is alleged to be currently engaged in indiscriminate shooting, summary execution and rape of hapless citizens in Nko community under the guise of fishing out the perpetrators responsible for the shooting of the military personnel.

“Houses and other properties are being burnt or destroyed by the military in the operation to fish out the culprits. The reprisal attacks are raw vengeance and not an investigation.

“We particularly condemn the attack and killing of military personnel drafted to the scene to help bring the situation to order. While the details of the events are awaited, no excuse will justify the shooting of army personnel on a peace keeping operation.

“The law of armed conflicts, even in international scenarios, view attack on peace keepers as a heinous crime.

“However, we are appalled that the governor, with a mandate for law and order in the state, responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of all Cross Riverians, will urge the sustenance of reprisal attacks on hapless villagers.

“We know that those that have been killed, wounded or r$ped in these reprisal attacks are not necessarily the perpetrators of the attack on the soldiers.

“The victims of the reprisal attacks are citizens in the wrong place and time without regard to their culpability. At this stage, the governor should be reining in the army and bringing the reprisal attacks to an end.

“We urge the Commanders of the Military Units involved, the GOC of 82 Division, Enugu, the Chief of Army Staff, and ultimately, President Muhammadu Buhari, our Commander-in-Chief, to call the soldiers to order and bring the situation under control. We call on citizens with access to these institutions to intervene to stop the carnage.

“We urge the Cross River State government to revisit and implement the recommendations of the judicial panel of enquiry over the crisis. Perhaps this will bring the crisis to an end and save citizens the annual embarrassment and risk that these clashes pose to all of us that ply the Ikom-Calabar highway.”

Responding earlier on the military operation in Nko, the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Onyema Nwachukwu had said; 

“Troops did not conduct themselves unprofessionally. Troops were legitimately deployed to restore law and order in a communal clash between Onyadama and Nko communities. The troops were attacked and shot with firearms. The five personnel who are critically wounded are currently under intensive medical care unit.”

Peter Obi in a tweet on his Twitter page said the action was misguided and did not emanate from his campaign team.

Campaign materials with images of Peter Obi have also been making the rounds since he emerged as the presidential candidate of LP.

However, Obi on Friday maintained that he respects the Muslim faith and is not in support of the action.

”The inclusion of my picture on the praying mat by a support group was misguided, even with the best of intentions. It didn’t emanate from my campaign team. I have deep respect for the Muslim faith and indeed, for every other religion.

”We will never mock any faith, ethnicity, or gender. We are one Nigeria,” he tweeted.

UK PM Says China Must Be Held To Commitments Made On Hong Kong

LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) – Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Britain would do all it could to hold Beijing to its commitments on democratic rights made 25 years ago when Hong Kong was handed back to China.

Johnson said China had failed to comply with its commitment to respect a “One Country, Two Systems” arrangement agreed under the deal that ended British colonial rule in 1997.

Britain has been especially critical of a national security law imposed in 2020 and electoral changes that it says erode the freedoms and autonomy of Hong Kong.

“On the 25th anniversary of the handover, we simply cannot avoid the fact that, for some time now, Beijing has been failing to comply with its obligations,” Johnson said in a video post.

“It’s a state of affairs that threatens both the rights and freedoms of Hong Kongers and the continued progress and prosperity of their home.”

China’s President Xi Jinping is visiting Hong Kong in his first trip outside of mainland China in more than two years to mark the anniversary.

Chinese officials have previously rebutted British criticism, saying it should keep out of the affairs of Hong Kong and accusing it of retaining a colonial mindset despite the handover.

In light of the national security law, Britain introduced a immigration route for holders of British National (Overseas) passports last year, with Johnson saying there had been 120,000 applications under the scheme by Hong Kongers.

“We’re not giving up on Hong Kong. Twenty five years ago, we made a promise to the territory and its people, and we intend to keep it, Johnson said.

He added that Britain would “do all we can to hold China to its commitments, so that Hong Kong is once again run by the people of Hong Kong, for the people of Hong Kong.”

40 American Students Take Igbo Names After Tracing Ancestry To Igboland

Forty students and faculty members from Morehouse College Glee Club in Atlanta, United States of America, USA, on Wednesday took Igbo names and declared their ancestry to the Igbos of South East Nigeria.

At an official naming ceremony held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the students narrated how they traced their Igbo ancestral roots through DNA tests, which they described as reaching.

The traditional ruler of Ibagwa-Aka community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, HRH, Igwe Hyacinth Eze, who performed the ceremony in conjunction with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, expressed happiness over the reunion of the Igbo-Americans with their ancestral brothers.

The monarch said he was also happy because of the spiritual, cultural and economic exchanges which would happen as a result of the reunion, adding that he is willing to provide lands for those that are willing to live in his community.

Speaking during the ceremony, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter, Prof. Fredrick Eze, said the reunion would help in the development of Igbo communities.

However, the Public Affairs Officer, United States Consulate General, Lagos, Stephen Ibelli, said the Club came to Nigeria to mark the 50th anniversary of its first visit to Nigeria in 1972.

He equally explained that the Club would tour Abuja, Enugu and Lagos States to strengthen US-Nigeria cultural ties through music, arts and film.

“The Morehouse College Glee Club, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first tour in Nigeria, will offer public concerts in Lagos, Abuja and Enugu. In addition, the group will visit universities and high schools, meet Nigerian students, and explore their historical ties to Nigeria.

“The 1972 visit to Nigeria infused African music into the Glee Club’s tradition and American Choral music in general. Fifty years later, choirs across the United States sing in Nigerian languages, highlighting the long-term impact of that exchange.

“The Morehouse College Glee Club has since learned a variety of songs in Edo, Yorùbá, Hausa, and Igbo, including a piece specifically composed for them by Igwe Laz Ekwueme, famed Nollywood actor and University of Lagos professor.

“During the visit, the Morehouse College Glee Club will carry out a dynamic exchange of musical knowledge with the broad spectrum of the Nigerian society, singing in Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba languages,” he said in a statement.

Also speaking, U.S. Ambassador, Mary-Beth Leonard, explained that the visit will strengthen the longstanding ties between American and Nigerian institutions of higher learning, and further expand the scope of academic and cultural relations between the United States and Nigeria.

“Cultural exchanges such as the visit of the Morehouse College Glee Club will help contribute to strengthening the bonds of friendship and collaboration through music and arts, offering an opportunity for Nigerian students to learn about academic experiences in the United States,” she stated

Many of the student members of the Morehouse College Glee Club described their visit as an opportunity to connect with their African roots.

“I love the culture of Nigeria,” 19-year-old Schneider Grandpierre, a junior third-year student studying Music and Computer Science at the Morehouse College said of the trip.

“It is such an enriching and amazing experience to be able to reconnect with our cultural roots and sing Nigerian music in different languages. I look forward to an extended stay here even after this tour,” one of the students said.

Expressing his excitement about the visit, 23-year-old John Batey, a Business Administration major and tenor singer for the choral group said he has been able to trace his roots to Nigeria through a DNA test. “We will be exploring the Nigerian creative and entertainment industry. I am excited about the tour.”

Director of the Morehouse College Glee Club, Professor David Morrow, explained that the choral group will perform a repertoire of African and American songs particularly African-American spirituals which have roots in West African music traditions.

Professor Morrow noted that the Morehouse College Glee Club is rooted in Dr Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy. Dr King who sang in the Morehouse College Glee Club was one of the notable alumni of the Historically Black College in the United States.

Some of the Igbo names given to the Igbo-Americans include Ezuomike, Ogalanya, Odenigwe, Anyim, Ifeanyi, among others.

Among those who witnessed the ceremony was the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, who also represented the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural at the ceremony.
